Obviously, there are a good mix of people here from the animation industry, both young and old(er), newbie to seasoned. For those who are dying to know anything and everything about working in animation, ask away on this thread. Myself (11 years experience), along with many others in the industry will try to take a crack at your answers.

For the record, I work in the commercial/broadcast side of the biz. Others have worked on TV shows and internet. Do we have any feature peeps? If not, let's try and get 'em here.

Ask away.....(or not)...

Well, how do I break in? I've just graduated SCAD, and I'm trying to find a place to start. Most jobs require 3-5 years of experience and I can't get an apprenticeship.

I'm a character animator, by the way (2D and 3D).

Not so much an industry question, but why is it that so many shows now (animated and live action) seem to be aligned to my tv set the wrong way? I see a show begin and half the rating is cut off in the upper left corner. I'm noticing this on alot of shows lately, mainly in the past year. Does it have to do with the digital conversion from last February?

I know my TV sets are fine, BTW :-)

Hi,

I've been doing Freelance work (3D and compositing) for a few years while working full time outside the industry and decided to skip freelancing and start learning ToonBoom and making my own cartoons. My humor is def raunchy and not for kids. I have a lot of outragous/offensive ideas that I'd like to put out there but am I shooting myself in the foot with this type of content? I eventually want to get into a studio somewhere but I love what I'm doing and don't want to censor myself. The 3 cartoons on my site are really just tests and me learning the software (even though they are finished cartoons). Right now I'm working on my character piece that will be pretty complicated as I have 10 characters involved. I may try to get it into a festival but right now I'm mainly concerned with how crazy I should get with the content. If anyone has some advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

When applying for jobs, it's not content that matters, but quality. Focus on quality of design and animation, but feel free to say whatever you want; it's your film.

I'm in junior college right now. But I'm looking to finish my BFA at FIT and SVA. I need to become a well rounded animator, because I want to produce. I'm just wondering if there are any producers out there who could give me a few tips on how to achieve success as a working animator and producer.
