Can you identify this ARTIST from the turn of the century ? ?

I came across this excellent Sketch from about the turn of the century,

it is framed by "Mattson picture frame shop" in Denver Colo.. The shop no longer exists, but found it was in business in the 1940's if not sooner.

Drawing 01 - is a blow-up of one of the characters, which seems so similar.

Could be Edward Lear.

Hi Elliot,

Can you show me an example of Lear's work that you might consider similar?

I found a couple thing of his, but nothing I would think conclusive. But maybe...

Thx

Bill

This kind of reminds me of the Tawny Scrawny Lion. Not quite on the mark, and not sure who illustrated it.

I think you'll find that this is a LOT older than Tawny Scrawny Lion, Carrie.

Bill - I can't find anything other than what Google reveals...

Thank you Elliot and Carrie, all suggestions are appreciated. I just can't get a handle on it. Fun trying though huh? :)

Looks very Rube Goldberg-like, but I'm not sure that it's his work.
