Channel Frederator RAW

I'm curious about what the first thing was that you guys can list as a job, something that paid you for your creativity and talent regarding your art. I know there's a lot of people here on RAW who do work in the industry now or are freelancing and I'm curious as to how you guys got to where you are now, what your first paying gig was. I'm not really sure I'd like to take my own art much further than just doing it, but I'm just wondering how it all worked out for you when you first started. I'm not looking for advice, just stories.
I'd also like to see more people on the forums again!

I started a blogspot as a way to get my name out. Soon after that I had something to show people when they asked about my art. My wife showed me an add on Gregs list for a "sex illustrator" and I answered. The gig didn't work out but the news paper I worked for gave me a shot a doing internet comics for them three times a week. The gig paid 9 bucks a drawing and ran until I moved out of the county. While working for them I found ways to sell my art at no cost to me. I sell everything from coffee mugs to my own shoe through Zazzle.com, and I self published a book of my art through Lulu.com. I am still trying to break into the industry but that is where I started and where I am at now. I would also recommend creating a DeviantArt Page. In the two short weeks I have been with them my art has been seen almost 300 times! I took the free page because i can't afford to subscribe. DeviantArt will also give you stats on all of your work and let you know how often it is being seen, whats the most popular, and what got the most comments.
