sophmore year you focus on handrawn animation, junior year you focus on computer animation, senior year you do what you want. Thats the general breakdown, there is always room to experiment and get your feet wet in any media.

rule of thumb is for you to say the words slowly and then go according to that. if its some thing like a title sequence i wouldn't leave it up for more than 3 sec, but if is a sentence or longer go by the rule. and have other people look at it too. see if they can read it. Good to hear your getting a jump start. That kind of enthusiasm is really helpful in our line of work. =)
